Self - Assessment

Speed is just one part of the puzzle. Actual group placement may vary depending on your comfort, safety, bike handling and group riding skills. Many NYCC riders use park laps as a simple way to gauge their cruising speed*.

Our Recommendation

Timing yourself over 4 full laps in Central Park (24.4 miles) or 7 full laps in Prospect Park (23.8 miles). Ride at a steady, uninterrupted pace, ideally without traffic lights, stops, or distractions and use your time to estimate your cruising speed.

Use the tables below to find your speed range. This is just a guide. Your comfort, safety, and group riding experience are just as important as your speed.
